A centenary only comes along when you haven’t had time to get ready for it. Didn’t see it coming.

That wasn’t the reason for missing the centenary of the amalgamation of municipal Leith with municipal Edinburgh in 2020. The centenary was in 2020, you understand. Covid-19 – that was the reason. So we issued the first edition of Leith Writings in 2021 and numbered it #101.

We called it The Darting Salamander, and you can read all about why HERE. And we’re looking for fresh material for our second edition. You can see what we’re looking for on the site.

The Leither kindly invited me to write a piece for them. I did send them the image of the Moloch, but it wasn’t intended to be the main image. I never imagined they wouldn’t go with our front cover, that excellent linocut of a darting salamander.
