In January / February 2013 the Dutch production company vpro broadcast a series of six 30-minute documentaries entitled SHOT ON LOCATION: they went to Londonderry for Bloody Sunday and Las Vegas for Leaving Las Vegas, and so on. Their problem when they came to Leith for Trainspotting was, of course, that it wasn’t shot on location. So that’s where I came in. It was great to meet the production team and presenter Tom Barman, and, in the course of the shoot, Andrew Macdonald, producer of Trainspotting, and Big Man IW himself. Here are some clips, reproduced by kind permission of vpro.nl (it’s worth seeing the whole series, if you can). Missing are clips from Trainspotting itself – the costs of including them would be prohibitive!
