You know how children squabble over their favourites? Well, who is your least favourite character in Trainspotting? Begbie is the clear-cut choice in the film, but the book is more subtle. Is it Sick Boy’s cynical pimping of wee Maria, and his attitude that ‘the nasty things in life should be shared’? Or is it Begbie, with his vicious violence towards men and women equally and his lack of remorse at the way he treated Matty at the latter’s funeral?
